Big and Bigger

CityCenter

The Pentagon has a footprint of 6.5 million square feet. Which is small taters compared to the newly opened CityCenter in Las Vegas – it has a footprint of 16.8 million square feet. That massive space is occupied by, among other things, a retail and entertainment complex called The Crystals, the 61-story Aria Resort and Casino, the 57-story Vdara Condo-Hotel, the 28-story Harmon Hotel and Spa, the 23-story Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, and a 37-story residential structure called The Veer Towers. There are some 2400 condos and twice as many hotel rooms. And all the folks in those rooms have a lot of places to eat. In the midst of The Crystals, surrounded by Prada, Christian Dior, Bulgari, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Hermes, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and a 20,000 square foot Apple Store, there's Eva Longoria Parker and Todd English's Beso, along with Mastro's Ocean Club, a pair of new Wolfgang Puck concepts, and a modern pub by Todd English.
The Aria Resort and Casino is home to Masayoshi Takayama's Bar Masa and Shaboo, Michael Mina's American Fish, Julian Serrano's eponymous tapas bar, a branch of Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Jean Georges Steakhouse, Sirio Maccioni's Sirio, Shawn McClain's Sage, and Jean Philippe Maury's JP Patisserie – among others!
Martin Heierling (of Sensi at The Bellagio) is Executive Chef at Vdara, where he's created his "modern trans-ethnic" Silk Road. And at the Mandarin Oriental, there's Twist by Pierre Gagnaire – a "classic french with a modern spin" that's Gagnaire's first restaurant in the United States. There's also MOzen Bistro, The Mandarin Bar on the 23rd floor, and a Tea Lounge adjacent to the hotel's Sky Lobby. And word has it that a supermarket is opening as well – the first (and only) supermarket on the Strip. Should you feel in need of Lunchables at four in the morning.
